It seems like everyone in Nigeria is an entrepreneur these days. Could it be some sort of trend that will phase out after a while, the liberating and elevating feeling it gives to be addressed as a business owner and an employer of labour? Maybe it is an attempt to break even in the current economy reality we are experiencing, or perhaps an effort to change the stereotypical impression that only white collar jobs are the best.

Adversity births all things creative and so is using plastic bottles to make houses.  The  Developmental Association for Renewable Energies (DARE) in Yelwa community of Kaduna state, Nigeria has found a creative way to address issues of homelessness and environmental pollution.

One rarely sits when your job requires you to rove all and around your world to tell stories about it. I recently visited Ajegunle, a community in the sprawling city of Lagos, Nigeria. In this small community lies an estate of wooden, polythene and zinc roofed shacks built on refuse of about 16 feet deep.

I am in the business of telling stories to the world. I love my continent Africa and who best will tell its story better than those of it? Well, part of my job requires that I rove and search for news. News is generally defined as stories that are timely in nature, involving prominent people or a mass number of people, sometimes conflict, sometimes new, sometimes strange, and sometimes bad (they say it sells the most). Basically what people want to know, should know and need to know.

After a long wait of 6 months, Nigeria's President Mohammadu Buhari swore in his ministers and named the designated portfolio of his ministers earlier today. He appointed 25 official ministers and 11 State Ministers.

A 34-year-old factory worker, Mohammed Ahmed, on Wednesday said he raped his daughter six times. Ahmed, who was paraded by officials of the Osun State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said he started having sex with his 14-year-old daughter ( name withheld) in April, 2015.

The visual quality might be a bit poor but its audio is quite clear. Esther's face was not shown in the video, just the girl she was initiating. According to the man that posted the video on Facebook, he confirmed the voice of the woman speaking behind the camera belongs to Esther.

In recent times, many will agree that the average privileged Nigerian Youth has more than one job, hustle or stream of income. Many reasons are said to have led to this trend such as personal/ individual circumstance, environmental or market related opportunities and lastly, societal/cultural factors. Interestingly, some say they became business owners generally because, their regular 9 - 5 wasn't sufficient to afford them the lifestyle they desire. For others, its an escape route to pursuing their passion especially when their main source of income pays well but isn't fulfilling and lastly, for another stratum, its for recognition. Above all, many have embraced entrepreneurship and are pushing boundaries with it.  Everyday from now, on this blog, stories of different creative and innovative young Nigerian entrepreneurs, home and in diaspora will be shared. Essentially to promote entrepreneurship and motivate others yet to make that Bold Step....

I never thought I'd be the type to follow trends especially when it comes to a fashion item such as lipstick. Dark lip colours especially purple are very much in vogue this season, and I caught the bug. Since then, I've been patiently wishing for a dark purple lip shade, and a not too pricey one as well. The others I know like Mac's Rebel happen to be quite pricey here in Lagos, Nigeria. Since when did marriage become a criterion to weigh how one should be respected? Why are women always against themselves? Is being respected a birthright or should be earned? One of the things I find interesting about being a Nigerian lady is that we are respectful or perhaps seem to be.  The average Nigerian female is so keen about respect that even among her committee of friends, she expects that someone she's probably three years older than must refer to her as 'Aunty' or 'Sister' and never call her by her first name. I personally think this is very archaic. I once had a girl tell me I ought to respect her because we are not on the same level any longer now she's married and has a child. To think this is someone I knew before she acquired marital status and became a mother.
