Venting Tuesday : Convo With A Scammer

When will these scammers learn? Yes, scammers!!!

Ever got a text message from a weird number telling you you have just won a large sum of money courtesy a popular brand? Or, perhaps, a strange phone-call from 'a long lost relative, friend, old school mate' and everything in between telling you how much he/she has missed you and would love to see you again after so many years ...blah-blah-blah

Apparently, those examples I gave fall under the electronic type of duping (scam), other types of the electronic duping include email advanced fees, plishing. The face to face duping is another type of scam. Here, the fraudsters come to their victim in person, inviting them to participate in a too good to be true deal. They tell the victim he need not worry about money anymore because the deal they are offering will save him from being financially handicap for life. They even engage their victim in a discussion depending on the type of deal involved.

The term 'scammer' is a negative word adopted by many Nigerians to describe a person who makes false claims about another person's achievement or about a non existing attractive reward and often requires the said victim's trust usually by appealing to the emotional weakness, gullibility or greed of the victim.
With that being said,  you definitely have a clear picture of who scammers are, and what they do.

I've been a victim of both scams (electronic and face to face) so what I write, is written based on
experience. I wasn't conned by the way, I'm just curious and I've always wanted to know how people really fall for their tricks. I joke not if I tell you I was alarmed at what I discovered.
Many of these scammers give the lamest lies ever. Some send random text messages typed in shorthand and incorrect grammar.Often times, I wonder where they get some numbers from. Others meet you at the bus-stop or in a public transport, engage you in a conversation and get you interested in what plan they have up their sleeve. The moment you grant them the time to 'trick' you to listen to them, you might just be bought over.
The victims on the other hand, I personally think they're gullible, ignorant or greedy. How can you win a large sum of money from a company or a brand you don't patronize, even if you use it, did you apply for any of their promotional winning offers? Don't you know their head office to confirm the truthfulness of the claim? Are you a learner?  I really don't pity people that get conned. The situation of the country is hard enough, if you have spare money and you want to invest, DO IT RIGHT.

Now to me.

While on my way to work I received this text message. I was very upset. I know people get such messages everyday so its not worth getting angered over, but that's my grouse exactly, because people are still getting such messages and nothing drastic is done to curb it. People have lost their properties, lives or jobs by virtue of this.

I called him up and recorded the conversation we had. Below is the dropbox link, tell me why I shouldn't vent. Listen to the conversation I had with the scammer Convo with a Scammer

Random Musings: Clearly I Am Not Just A Fat Ass

Lately I find myself listening to different genres of music. From rock, pop, country, jazz and and and. So I have just being a music whore trying to find the one I'm most comfortable with.  Of all the genres of music I have been experimenting lately, Soul tops my list. Now Soul is believed to be music for only mature minds, whatever that means! I have even been told that you need to be of a certain age group to understand the message that lies in soul music. Honestly, I couldn't disagree more.

So What If I've Had 20 Exes?

This might be another very controversial article that I get to post on my blog weekly. This is because every now and then I get to meet very interesting people and I am constantly reminded that we view life differently. Before I continue, I'll advise only 25s and above to read this. I believe this age range can relate with this topic appropriately. However,  I'm open to contrary views.
