AWAITING OUR OWN MAX - LESSON FROM 'ELYSIUM'

By Bamidele Salako If you’re yet to see Elysium, one of the rave-making blockbuster movies of this summer, then I advise you grab a copy now or get to the nearest cinema ASAP (it’s still showing in theatres) where you can be accorded the ultimate movie viewing experience – if you can afford it lol. Don’t get me wrong o! This is not a paid advertisement or promo for the movie or for film houses; Elysium is simply a must-watch, not just for movie aficionados but for all Nigerians who are burdened by the seemingly never changing state of affairs in our dear country – our intractable unpleasant collective existence which has unwittingly produced the popular enduring mantra – “E go better.”     Except on very special occasions, I am not one to go to the movies for the sheer pleasure of it. It’s not in my culture. My best moments are the ones I spend alone reading good books or surfing the internet for an eclectic array of great opinion pieces, news features, a...

Trend alert - BOX BRAIDS

If there's one haistyle that wont be leaving us anytime soon, its the BOX BRAIDS. Many fashion icons have  rocked it and some are yet to. The likes of the Knowles sisters, Solange   Beyonce   Janet Jackson Brandy  Just recently, Keri Hilson just joined the league and is totally owning the look like she was born for it. Its very obvious she's loving the box braids as she pretty girl rocked her way into the premiere of her new film, 'Riddick' starring Vin Diesel. She looked really stunning in the black body-hugging dress and black shoes she donned.  and finally me, when I caught the BOX BRAIDS fever.

WIFE ME!

WhoopWhoop! I'm so excited I'm back. What a sabbatical that was. Promise never to leave without notice again. I stumbled on this few days ago and I thought I'd share it. Its a piece written by Relationship expert, Steve James Dixon as he gives 10 'realistic' ways to move from girlfriend to wife. Be a Woman All Day, Everywhere Have respect, pride and dignity for yourself. If you let your friends take advantage of you, so will your man. If you come home crying about your job every day without being proactive about getting a new one, your man is not going to find that attractive. Be sexy, sweet, sassy, feminine and most of all, be womanly. Be Independent Not just financially, but be an independent thinker overall. Take the time to learn you and what works best for you instead of taking someone else’s advice and forcing yourself into a box. Your core person should not change simply because you are in a relationship. Be indepen...

That NICE GOOD seed (Tara's thought)

First of all, I’d like to thank you for checking out my very first blog post. God bless you abundantly.        My thought for today is on one of the many questions I’ve had to ask myself sometimes, especially when I’ve just been hurt by someone close and it is, WHY BE NICE/GOOD? Here’s a story that helps me answer this rhetorical question of mine. THE DOVE AND THE ANT ‘A thirsty ant went to a brook to get a drink. He climbed onto the edge of a blade of grass overhanging the pond, but the surface was too shiny and wet that he lost his balance and fell into the water. A dove sitting in a nearby tree saw the drowning ant decided to help him. He could have decided to eat the ant but yelled at the ant instead heeding him to climb atop a leaf he dropped in the water the ant was about fall into. Plucking the leaf from the tree, the dove fluttered just above the ant and then dropped it. The ant scrambled onto the leaf and floated safely to the stream ...

A new start (Tara’s thoughts)

Let me start by wishing everyone reading this blog a happy new month and also wishing you more grace and exceedingly great blessings.     This is my very first official blog and I intend to be as loyal to it as a dog to its master *wink*.   I chose to start now after many months of procrastinating the moment I listened to a song on the radio, it was this song that prompted me to kick start the many plans I lined out for my year 2013 which rejuvenating my love for blogging is one. This is why my first post will be the lyrics of the song that motivated me,hoping it does to you the same. It’s the song by Baz Lurhman ‘sunscreen’. I'd advise you read it to the end, it wont bore you, I promise  Enjoy and Please feel free to post your thoughts about this song afterwards. 'Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of ’99 If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have be...
